FLINT, Mich., June 28 (Our Michigan Times) — Michigan parents Damien O’Brien and Jessica O’Brien have been charged in Genesee County with second-degree murder, torture and child abuse in the death of their 7-year-old son, Casper O’Brien, court records show.

Casper died Nov. 4, 2025, after a 911 call from the Flint Township home he shared with his parents reported that he was not breathing, according to court records and law enforcement information cited in the case. The records say he weighed 255 pounds when he died.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said in a statement that he believed the parents “neglected this child to the point that he became obese.” He also described the case as one marked by “reckless and intentional neglect” and said the boy suffered from severe bedsores, rashes and other health problems.

Court records say the O’Briens are expected to appear at a probable cause conference Thursday.
