CALHOUN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA, June 20 (Infinite Headlines) — Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies arrested six people after a June 6 fight broke out at the 601 Sand Bar on the Congaree River in South Carolina, where investigators said alcohol and underage drinking were factors.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said the disturbance began during the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run and spread into multiple fights. Video released by the sheriff’s office showed people crowding around the sandbar as punches were thrown in shallow water.

Authorities said more than 20 people were involved and at least three were injured, with wounds ranging from swollen eyes to head injuries. Sheriff Thomas Summers said the injuries were severe and said the behavior would not be tolerated.

The sheriff’s office said the six arrested were Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell and Taylor Knudson. Officials said they face various assault and breach-of-peace charges.

Investigators said the case remains active and that more arrests are expected as detectives review video and public submissions. The sheriff’s office has not said what sparked the violence.
