WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital on the morning of June 14, his office said, and spokesperson David Popp said on June 16 that the Kentucky senator remained engaged in Senate work while receiving care.
Popp, McConnell’s communications director, said McConnell was “receiving excellent care.” Popp did not say why the 84-year-old senator was hospitalized, and his office did not identify the hospital.
On June 16, Popp said McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”
McConnell, a Republican, was also hospitalized earlier this year. Popp said on Feb. 2 that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the prior weekend.
He was discharged on Feb. 10 after eight days in the hospital. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
