ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 22 (DC Times Online) — Maryland election officials removed Ian Andre Roberts from the state voter rolls on June 2 after records showed he had been registered twice and remained on the rolls for more than a decade.

Maryland voter-registration forms show Roberts checked the citizenship box and signed under penalty of perjury twice, according to the records cited in the reporting. Republican Delegate Matt Morgan, who chairs the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, said the case shows why “Marylanders have lost faith in our elections.”

Morgan said the delay in removing Roberts reflected deeper problems with how the state maintains its voter rolls. Elections administrator Jared DeMarinis had previously warned against “improper cancellation” of eligible voters, underscoring the state’s concern about removing the wrong names from the list.

The case has also drawn congressional scrutiny. Republican Rep. Bryan Steil said in January that the investigation would continue.
